TYUS JONES (MEM)
PG • 6’2, 184 lbs; 5th year, Duke
NBA ROLE: PLAYMAKER
A relaxed floor general from the North, Tyus Jones is developing into a nice complementary player in the league; during Duke’s run to the top in 2015, TJ was the “straw that stirred the drink” for Coach K & the Blue Devils; natural leader, evolving – Jones is fearless and comfortable initiating sets, threads pinpoint passes after ball screens; very good shooter if there’s an opening – needs to trust jumper a bit more but also not settle when defenders converge; wicked fast first step, crafty scoops, confident finisher – pretty decent float game, needs a few more finishers around the rim; despite lacking positional size, Jones competes hard on D (very good anticipation for steals, active in passing lanes); working on strength, consistent finishing & foul-drawing – when given minutes, he’s shown the ability to run a team and play under control; bigger role in Memphis?
