JAMES JOHNSON (MIA)
F • 6’8, 240 lbs; 11th year, Wake Forest
NBA ROLE: TWO-WAY, HYBRID FORWARD
James Johnson has more than a few redeemable qualities: versatile athlete, strong frame, exceptional at creating opportunities for teammates*; sporadic playing time has yielded weird roles in the past – makes mark w/ Heat through leadership, distributing & focusing on getting stops; defends very well – leverages his body correctly: quick enough to stick w/ most threes, strong enough to handle a lot of four men; an inconsistent stroke from downtown has held JJ back a bit; steady pace, finishes well around the basket by staying under control; very good athlete, frequently sneaks in for put backs, perennial 'dunk of the year' candidate; Johnson does damage in whatever role Coach Spo needs – mid-post passer/defender/play initiator – one of the league's most underrated forwards?
*JJ doesn’t have a high usage rate but is always looking to make a play
