DERRICK FAVORS (NOP)
F/C • 6’10, 265 lbs; 10th year, Georgia Tech
NBA ROLE: TWO-WAY 4/5
If there’s one player who doesn’t receive enough national attention, it’s Derrick Favors; when fully healthy, D-Favs ranks high when discussing some of the league's most capable, two-way bigs; finishes strong after screening (& rolling), not many you’d rather have as a roll finisher – unadulterated, power dribble-dunker w/ a vengeance against the rim; strong as an ox, has a soft touch & it’s hard to move him once he’s gotten to his spot (can pivot out or spin around his man); 'throwback' big – money inside the arc w/ midrange Js*, solid flash cutter who’s ready to deliver a decisive blow after catching; Favors takes his time on the box: re-adjusts, makes his move depending on coverages; not the most mobile, can struggle v. quicker opponents/outside shooters; underrated rim protector, does well cleaning up help side action; has learned to maximize production in under 30 minutes/night – key component of Alvin Gentry’s gameplan in 2020?
*not a distance shooter...yet?
